For their third installment of exhibitions in collaboration with the Latino Art Now! Conference in Houston, Rudolph Blume Fine Art / ArtScan Gallery showcases six more Latino and Latina artists. Santa Barraza, Ernesto Marenco, Tina Hernandez, Patrick McGrath Muñiz, Miguel Ángel Ávila, and Liliana Wilson bring their experiences and their culture into view with clear delineation between what they all separately bring to the table.
Santa Barraza cultivates a traditional Chicana style as she navigates the art world between her Native American heritage and her Mexican roots, balancing in a realm she deems “Nepantla”. While Miguel Ángel Ávila also delights in the balance between the Mexican and Texas borderlands, his interpretation is surrealist.
Hailing from Puerto Rico, Patrick McGrath Muñiz looks through multiple lenses inspired by Baroque, Renaissance, and Latin American colonial paintings as he creates his work responds to our capitalist society. Tina Hernandez takes a magnifying glass to traditional gender and cultural Latino iconography and portrays her perspective through her photography.
Chilean Liliana Wilson works alongside her subconscious as she creates moments in human experience touched by the spiritual universe. While being inspired by the original objects themselves, Ernesto Marenco takes a bit of humor and a bit of poetry as he crafts his sculptures allowing them to become new objects.
